Campfire Rules

Yep! There are rules, and here are some more for around the campfire:

  1. Be careful. Fire burns stuff, even your nifty trail blazer if you get your arm too close to it.
  2. Marshmallows are yummy when toasted over the open fire—just don’t let them burn. Charcoal blobs? Yucky. Not good.
  3. Don’t stare into the campfire and expect to spot the hoot owl that just landed behind you. Your eyes need time to adjust from bright firelight to the dark woods. Give them a moment—and maybe you’ll catch a glimpse.
  4. Remember Smokey the Bear? He was right! Keep your campfire contained while you’re there and put it out completely before you leave. Otherwise, your cozy blaze could become a forest fire. Aaaack!
  5. Parks have rules for campers—especially those who want a nifty campfire. Learn the rules for the park you’re blazing through, and follow them. They’re there to protect you, the trees, the critters, and the chance to camp again another day.

Don’t forget to talk about your day, sketch in your journal, compose a nifty haiku, or just enjoy the glow with your guides, family, and friends.

Be safe—and enjoy the adventure!
